Correspondence, 2023 - present

With Jeanne Champenois-Masset

In 2023, a correspondence began to be written with the offering of the purple thread. Since then, Jeanne and Matilde have been meeting frequently to create a place where they bring, unpack, offer and receive.

In this gesture and ritual, they present a part of themselves in a response to the other, the fruit of poetic listening and openness. By addressing the other and bringing their individual practices into dialogue, this is also how friendship is built. With the pleasure of creating, offering, extending and celebrating.

Recording the gesture, sharing and listening to words and daily experiences are the protocol for building this shared archive. For this, different artistic disciplines are invoked such as poetry, performance, drawing, self-publishing, sculpture, sound and narration. The objects that bring this collection to life are simple, fragile, made by themselves, thoughtful, and invite the public to enter into the intimacy of the offering.

From this practice of correspondence result works in multiple forms: letters and postcards, tiny sculptures, soundscapes, drawings and embossings, self-published books and boxes housing dried daffodils, a chestnut or a collected pollen. Through a process that is always free and personal, the objects created support a practice of attention to the other and to everyday life.

This project also speaks of places: of the private sphere and one's room, of the collective workshop, of the public school, of the garden under construction, of the workplace, of places of consumption. The materials used are found, reused, re-appropriated, saved, collected, transformed, re-printed,... and reflect contemporary ecological concerns.

The fruit of their meetings was presented in the form of a performance/performed reading during the exhibition Faire livre! at Cloud Seven, in June 2024, in Brussels.
